Discovering Altamura with Marino
General information on Altamura
Known for its production of PDO bread, with its high-topped shape, the city holds an important treasure: the skeleton of the Altamura Man - Homo Neanderthalensis - found in 1993 in the cave of Lamalunga cave. This discovery has made it possible to gain a deeper understanding of the European Neanderthals, which was rather fragmented until now. The city of Altamura, however, also offers tourist attractions that should not be missed. Among the monuments to visit is the Cathedral, the most important building in the city, built at the request of Frederick II of Swabia. Following the Bread Itinerary, a visit to the Molino Artigianale Dibenedetto is essential. This is an artisanal mill near the historical center, where they still work with original wooden machinery.
