Monopoli

Monopoli is a village, a town founded on the sea, dominated by a large square where the houses are covered with lime and many are the houses of fishermen. The tour of the “City of the Contradas” is made up of numerous visits: churches, squares, noble palaces of the 18th century or of the Murattiana period, and remains of medieval fortifications that recount an ancient history. The historical center is a great attraction, due to the presence of many restaurants and trattorias, where the taste of the sea meets the countryside. Cafés and trendy venues attract young people, but, along with these, it is easy to come upon small fishermen’s abodes, artisan craft shops, or local mini markets. Outside the city, golden sandy beaches blend with crystal clear waters. In the countryside, Monopoli is made up of contradas – districts, secular olive trees, prestigious fortified manor farms, and country churches.
