Pesaro

Pesaro is a town where the modern is harmoniously combined with the past. Known for its majolicas with an unmistakable physiognomy since the 14th century and the birthplace of Gioacchino Rossini, it houses the conservatory dedicated to him, and it is considered one of the best music schools in Italy. Seemingly bare at first sight, the Cathedral of Pesaro, hides a treasure trove ; under the modern floor, in fact, it is possible to admire splendid mosaics dating back to the time of the Emperor Justinian, up to the years of Charlemagne. At the same time, however, the modern soul of Pesaro, the capital of the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region, is revealed with the International Exhibition of the New Cinema and with the National Festival of Dramatic Arts Groups. After reaching Pesaro by bus with the Marino company, the stroll to discover the most interesting kinds of architecture sets off from Piazza del Popolo which overlooks the Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo Baviera and the picturesque Gothic facade of the former Church of San Domenico.
