POLIGNANO A MARE
Discovering Polignano a Mare with Marino
General information on Polignano a Mare
Polignano a Mare is a small gem set in the heart of Puglia. Its oldest nucleus rises on a rocky spur over the Adriatic Sea. Since 2008, Polignano a Mare has received the Blue Flag, an acknowledgment that attests the excellent quality of its bathing water. This is also why the city is the setting for Redbull Cliff Diving, the diving tournament where divers leap from the most exciting heights in the world.
The narrow streets of the historical center reserve many surprises and impressive views, but before entering, the Lama Monachile Bridge is worth a visit: a jewel of the pre-unitary South that rises on the old Roman bridge on the Via Traiana, a junction between Rome And the port of Brindisi. Walking along the promenade of Polignano you’ll come upon the statue of Domenico Modugno, smiling at his hometown. This is a tribute to the singer who reached the pinnacle of his success with the song, “Volare”.
